SUSTAINABILITY Emergency preparedness

Emergency preparedness

Crisis Management Plans are in place at group, regional and site levels. Responsibilities are allocated according to the severity of the crisis as described below:

  • The Crisis Management Support Team is led by the EVP of Sustainable Development and is responsible for addressing crises at the "red level," which refers to incidents with an international impact on multiple Golden Mine Projects regions or the entire Company.
  • The Regional Incident Response Team, led by the respective Regional EVP, handles "orange-level" incidents, indicating incidents with a significant impact at the local and regional levels.
  • The Emergency Response Team, under the leadership of the mine VP operations, is in charge of "yellow-level" emergencies, signifying incidents with a notable impact at the local level.

A comprehensive Crisis Management Guideline at the Group level outlines all pertinent responsibilities, encompassing roles such as profiles, pre-incident obligations, tasks during an incident, and post-incident duties. These roles include Team Leaders, Team Coordinators, individuals from Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Sustainable Development (including Community Relations), Protection Services, Risk, ICT, and the Team Administrator. The guideline also specifies crisis management facilities. Additionally, each region upholds its own Crisis Management Guideline tailored to local conditions, subject to regular reviews.

Periodic drills are conducted to assess the system's functionality. Some of these drills undergo external assurance to ensure adherence to required standards and to enhance future performance. Quarterly updates are provided to the SH&SD Committee.
